With the impending release of Daughter of Blood, it was about time Helen Lowe’s The Wall of Night series featured on The Friday Face-Off. And this week we have not two covers to compare but four! Published Orbit in the UK and by Eos and Harper Voyager in the US, it’s time to get an eyeful of The Heir of Night and see which cover comes out on top!

Ohh, this week was a tough one for me! I initially bought The Heir of Night because of the beautiful Orbit #1 cover but just looking at that vibrant, bloody red of Orbit #2 I can’t help but be drawn in. The typeface is very eye-catching and paired back when compared to #1 and I love that smoky, inky black that creeps in around the edges… but Orbit #1 still comes a very close second! Similarly the gorgeous cover art by Greg Bridges on the EoS cover is wonderfully atmospheric and conjures up so much imagery from the novel that I can’t help but love it, even if the typeface isn’t to my taste. The only cover which really doesn’t appeal to me is the Harper Voyager cover which doesn’t have the vibrancy and impact of the Orbit covers or the atmosphere of the EoS cover. So bravo Orbit #2, you’re a definite winner in my eyes!

Ahh, it was hard. For me, it was a toss up between #1, #2, and Eos covers. My winner is #1 though. #2 was a close, close, close second but I didn’t pick it because I think it would make a banging movie poster/dvd case. The Eos cover was really nice too. The mistiness shrouds it in mystery and makes me curious about the book.

You’re right! #2 could definitely be a movie poster or dvd cover. It’s so eye-catching! I do love #1 and the EoS cover though. Both different but equally convey a sense of the book!

I love these Face Off posts. I probably have to go with Orbit #1 because I like the photo realistic painted covers. Though your winner is nice too, using the same image. I like the atmosphere, makes the book look kind of scary 🙂

I love that first cover too – I only picked up the book in the first place because I magpied it in the shop! I can’t help but love the impact of that red cover though.. I just can’t stop looking at it!

Well, the red cover is very eye catching for sure so it is difficult. I do like the first one though and my initial thought was that was my favourite. That fourth book cover couldn’t be more different could it! What’s that all about.

I do love that first one… but that red! – I just love it!! That fourth cover is slightly reminiscent of A Song of Ice and Fire covers but it just doesn’t appeal to me. Love all the others though!

This was a tough one! I particularly like the Orbit #1 and EoS cover; very atmospheric. Like you the only one I am not that keen on is the Harper Voyager one.

I love the bloody red cover! But the one under the arch is also really epic-looking. I’m torn!!
