The Bullet-Catcher’s Daughter

Volume One of The Fall of the Gas-Lit Empire

by Rod Duncan

Steampunk | 384 Pages | Published by Angry Robot in 2014

Had I been a man, I could have strolled into that dark warren of narrow streets, blind alleys and iniquity, letting the steel tip of my cane tap out a leisurely report of my progress, receiving winks and catcalls from barkers and gamblers, gin-sellers and rowdy girls. But the Backs is no place for a lady.

~ p. 01, The Bullet-Catcher’s Daughter by Rod Duncan

| Synopsis |

Elizabeth Barnabus lives a double life – as herself and as her brother, the private detective. She is trying to solve the mystery of a disappearing aristocrat and a hoard of arcane machines. In her way stand the rogues, freaks and self-proclaimed alchemists of a travelling circus.

But when she comes up against an agent of the all-powerful Patent Office, her life and the course of history will begin to change. And not necessarily for the better…

  1. Books about daughters of men of various professions seem to be trending these days. I like your teaser, especially since I just got back from a breakfast to celebrate International Women’s Day. I’m not exactly sure what a bullet-catcher is, and from that view alone, I’d probably keep reading. I hope you’re enjoying it.

    1. They do, don’t they? Obviously daughters have far more exciting lives than their fathers…

And I am enjoying it, it’s definitely an intriguing read! Happy International Women’s Day (for yesterday!) 😀
