The Colour of Magic
A Discworld Novel
by Terry Pratchett
Fantasy | 287 Pages | Published by Corgi in 2012
“Rincewind thought that a meeting with most of the Drum’s clientele would mean that Twoflower never went home again, unless he lived downriver and happened to float past.“
~ p.34
“The box didn’t appear to be hampered in any way by the ornamental rug draped roguishly over it, nor by the thief hanging one armed from the lid. It was, in a very real sense, a dead weight. Further along the lid were the remains of two fingers, owner unknown.”
~ p.61
The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett
| Synopsis |
In the beginning there was… a turtle.
Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place which might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different. Particularly as it’s carried though space on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown). It plays by different rules.
But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc’s very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the world’s first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land. Unfortunately, the person charged with maintaining that survival in the face of robbers, mercenaries and, well, Death, is a spectacularly inept wizard…

Ahh… Pratchett… Oh yessss. This is one of my all-time favourite series and though it has its ups and downs, the early books in particular have a special place in my heart:). I very much hope you are LOVING it and if you haven’t read any of the others, know that there is awaiting a library of funny, sharp observations about the human condition. Some are better than others, but no one does it like Terry and his loss at such a young age is a tragedy.
My TT this week is about an adventurous sneak thief… https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2016/04/12/teaser-tuesday-12th-april-2016/

I’m ashamed that it’s taken me so long to read a Pratchett novel! I’m certainly enjoying it so far and I cannot wait to explore Discworld further 😀 Very sad indeed about his loss – though he has left a wonderful legacy for us all to enjoy.

That he did – and there’s nothing to be ashamed of… There are sooo many books and so little time! I’m delighted you are giving him a go and will be very interested to hear how you get on with the book.
