Fantasy and crime fiction are known for their lengthy and world spanning series and, as two of my most read genres, it comes as no surprise that they top this week’s Top Ten. In fact, seven of my top ten authors are tied with ten books read each!

What a fantastic list! Some definite cross overs with mine – how does Sanderson churn them out so quickly and well? And how did I forget Jim Butcher, I think I am up to book 6?

I really don’t know how Sanderson does it! And every book is so beautifully written too! I really need to catch up on my Harry Dresden backlog before it gets any bigger!

I’m in two minds about Dresden – I want to like it (I mean, zombie T-Rex!) but something just doesn’t quite ‘gel’ with me…. I will tend to pick one up when I am in a slump so maybe that explains it.

They are definitely one of my ‘comfort’ reads – they’re easy and I know what I’m getting, they’re quite fun, and they can be sandwiched between more lengthy reads! Having read so many I feel quite invested in completing them too!

I think you MIGHT like Fantasy, just a hunch! I’ve only recently started being interested in books other than YA but I find the size of Fantasy books and series really daunting.

Hehe – just a bit!! I must say it is quite rare for me to read outside of fantasy so I’m surprised at how many crime fiction novels cropped up!
I completely understand that… but once you get through your first of a super long chonky-book series – such as Sanderson – and you realise how phenomenal they are, you will be glad that there are so many sequels!! 😀

I know – they’ve been released in fiarlyquick succession! They’re often on Kindle sale too which is why I’ve managed to snap so many up! 😀

I really want to read some P.G. Wodehouse – he sounds like fun. I’ve only read one fan fiction book based on his Jeeves and Wooster novels.

Oh he is so much fun! Extremely witty and quite silly – they are very much books that will put you in a good mood!
I really rather enjoy how his characters’ monocles and pince-nez jump off their faces when they’re surprised too… 😂 It happens with alarming regularity!

Well, I’m reading the only adult book that A.A. Milne ever wrote – The Red House Mystery – and although there are no monocles, it is very cute as well!

I own the entire Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher, but I haven’t read it yet. Ha! It came highly recommended, though. Someday I’ll get to it. 😉

I still haven’t read the Codex Alera series! Though I do own the first book! – Oh!! You just made me realise that I’ve also read The Aeronaut’s Windlass too! Must update my top ten….. haha!

Great list! I’ve been meaning to try some of Trudi Canavan’s work for years and I’d like to cross Empire in Black and Gold off my TBR this year.

Oh you definitely should! 😀 I really recommend starting with Canavan’s Black Magician Trilogy – it blew me away when I first read it. I am woefully behind on her latest series though…

I love Sanderson! I’ve only read 4 of his books so far, but I hope to read many more. I’ll have to check out some of the others on this list. The only other one I’ve read is Tolkien.

Everything Sanderson writes is a dream. I absolutely love him! I turned up to a book signing once with about ten hardbacks… oops! Haha.

Nice list! I haven’t heard of some of these authors and I haven’t read anything by most of them. I have read THE HOBBIT and LOTR, which I loved. I’ve also read the first few books in the Mistborn series. I really enjoyed them, but I still haven’t finished the series for some reason. I need to get on that!

Some of these authors I didn’t realize had written so many books! I’ve never read Sanderson- or Butcher- although I’d like to try them. I did think the Aeronaut book sounded fun. 🙂
I did like One Word kill but haven’t read the rest of that series yet.

I’ve only read two of the authors on your list! I have been wanting to try Brandon Sanderson for a long time though, just not sure where to start!

Oh you should definitely give him a try! I would start with the Mistborn series – The Final Empire is the first book in the series and the next two are in the same time period. 😀

The Dresden Files are so much fun! They’re not very long either (by fantasy standards) which makes them ideal for sandwiching in between longer books 🙂

Most of these authors are new to me but I love the artwork for that Cadfael series, it is stunning. This is a great list and I think I might give the Dresden Files a try in the future; I have seen so many bloggers talk about those books.

Oh I love them too – particularly the covers that look like wood cuts! And if you like or want to try urban fantasy, The Dresden Files is a great option! 😃

I read The Hobbit a million times when I was a kid. I probably should have put JRR Tolkien on my list just for that.

I don’t recognize many of the other authors, but then again, I’ve been away from the blogosphere for almost 3 years and the memory does tend to wander a bit.

Aha! I almost saw your monocle spring out of its socket! I must confess that I’ve actually read two more of his books in the past two days!
I have also been away for two years and can definitely attest to the wanderings of the mind… The number two, for example, seems significant for some reason.

Oh Trudi Canavan! I have the first 4 books on my physical tbr of her long series (the one that consists of multiple trilogies and all) but I have yet to pick them up. Yet I think they’ll be right up my alley.
