Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
Welcome to the Friday Face-Off!
This week we’re comparing book covers that are predominantly white and oh my were there a lot to choose from! In order to narrow down the wealth of possibilities, I decided that I would have to go for a book I had read and loved, a book which just so happens to have two absolutely stunning covers – enter Nevernight by Jay Kristoff.
With Tor’s Nevernight cover by Jason Chan against Harper Voyager’s cover by Kerby Rosanes, take a look and see which one is your favourite!
Tor | Cover #1
Harper Voyager | Cover #2
| The Friday Face-Off: Winner |
The Tor cover is beautiful and eerily atmospheric, the solitary figure of Mia Corvere with a blooded blade making for a dark, dramatic composition. Further to this, the winged shadow against the pale stonework make for an arresting backdrop which is set off by the twisting and swirling typeface.
By contrast, the Harper Voyager cover is bold and eye-catching, and the beautifully detailed bird against the blood red sun makes for a striking image. This is a Face-Off that I simply cannot choose between.

I choose the Tor cover: the calligraphy style, the realism combined with fantastic elements- those shadow wings on the stonework are great! The spare red contrast catches the eyes. I also like that there is not much blurb (beyond that NYT bestseller).

It really is beautiful but the more I looked at the Harper Voyager cover, the more I got lost in all the little details. The Tor covers definitely represent the books a little better though.
I’ve now included the concept art Jason Chan did for the Tor cover – I love all of those too! I think I’d have to call it a draw between them all 😂

I will add you! It isn’t a proper link thing unfortunately – I just gather up the ones I see! Just leave the link in a comment on any week and I will add! 😀 Yay for inefficiency!

I like the Tor cover but I LOVE Kerby Rosanes’s work, huge fan of his illustrations, so his cover is the preferred one for me. I just love all that’s going on in that bird.

I agree, it’s a tough choice for me too. I think it would depend on whatever mood I was in, but I have to say they are both really nice covers 🙂

There’s so much detail in the illustration too! I am going to have a good look and see what I can find hidden in the cover when I read Darkdawn! 😀

Having not read, I don’t know which suits the story more, but I can’t help but be drawn to the bird cover: it is just so striking!
